Anime Limited Schedules 4K HDR Gundam Film Trilogy For June 24

 New edition of the three 1980s cinema films based on the original Mobile Suit Gundam TV series


Anime Limited's AllTheAnime website is listing a 4K UHD collector's edition of the 1980s Mobile Suit Gundam film trilogy on June 24. This is the trilogy of cinema films that were adapted from the original Mobile Suit Gundam series. The three films are called Mobile Suit Gundam IMobile Suit Gundam II: Soldiers of Sorrow and Mobile Suit Gundam III: Encounters in Space.

Each of the films will be put on a separate disc. They will be presented in 4K HDR, with Japanese Dolby Atmos 5.1 or dual mono audio options. Only Japanese audio options and English subtitles are listed on the website. The discs will be Region free.

This edition will also contain a 68-page booklet, "Beyond the Universal Century", including character art, storyboards, and interviews and articles that are described as being "officially translated into English for the first time." They will include discussion by Yoshiyuki TominoGundam animators Tetsuro Araki and Shunichi Yoshizawa, and producer Naohiro Ogata.

Anime Limited describes the story of the film trilogy:

"Universal Century 0079. Amuro Ray finds himself caught up in the war between the Earth Federation and the Principality of Zeon. He unwillingly becomes the pilot of a prototype Mobile Suit called the Gundam. Now he and the crew of the White Base will have to fight for their very lives as the enemy attempts to destroy this new weapon at all costs.

"Combatants will face triumph and turmoil as they battle their way through space to get to their final destination on Earth. The outcome of the war lies in the hands of the Newtype in the anime series that started it all."
